Ivalee Elementary School Where the Road to Success is Always Under Construction
Ivalee Elementary School is located in rural west Etowah County. This community has been home for several generations of many of the students' families. As a result, this school has a strong and active parent organization with a tradition of providing for the school. The original school building burned in the spring of 1941. The present school facility was built in 1949 consisting of six classrooms, restrooms, a lunchroom, and it served grades one through six. A kindergarten program was added in 1978 serving a limited number of twenty students per year. This was later expanded to serve all children who enrolled in the program. Special Education services were added to the program in the mid 1970's. In the fall of 1988, a new wing consisting of two classrooms, a library, teacher's workroom, and a principal's office was added. In 1997, five new classrooms, a gymnasium, and a lunchroom were added which doubled the size of the school campus. This eliminated two portable classrooms at the school. Targeted assistance with Title I funding provided remedial instructions in mathematics and reading for students with instructional needs. In 1995, Ivalee became a full Title I school due to the increase in the number of students participating in the free and reduced lunch program. In 1998, because of increased student performance on SAT tests, parent and community involvement, and professional innovation in curriculum and expertise of the faculty, Ivalee School was designated as a "National Distinguished Title I School."
100% of Ivalee's teachers are certified according to the standards set forth by the state of Alabama. Ivalee School has a unique learning environment with an individualized and comprehensive curriculum and a professional staff focused on meeting student needs. The staff is known for its willingness to change and incorporate new ideas. Student success and achievement have been a direct result. Ivalee is a Title I school.
Ivalee is dedicated to developing ethical and resourceful students in a safe and supportive environment. We strive to accomplish this by providing a challenging curriculum in an academic atmosphere with a consistent building of an educational foundation.
We believe that every child is entitled to a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning. We believe every child's education is the responsibility of the school with the help and support of the parent. We believe every child deserves to have thier basic needs met and be treated with respect and dignity. We believe every child is capable of learning what is needed to be a productive United States citizen and that this will occur best when educators, administrators, parents, students, and community members work together.
Our classrooms are equipped with a variety of technologies. All of our classrooms and library are equipped with interactive whiteboards. Ivalee students are 1:1 with each student having access to a Chromebook. All classrooms have a digital projector and document camera. Each classroom has one CPU and some combination of the following devices: Kindles, IPADs, or Chromebooks. Ivalee students have access to various web based learning platforms and also tools to enhance instruction meeting the standards for digital learning and technology. We recently purchased programmable robots for use by students in the classroom to further their experience with technology and coding in particular. It is our goal to provide students with the skill set and classroom instructional experiences to enhance their knowledge and use of technology as productive and digitally responsible citizens. Each year we host two Technology Fairs within our school. We have students that have gone on to place in our region and state Technology Fair competitions.
